Set Up VPN Connection in WIndows Vista

After you buy (or register for free) a PPTP or L2TP account, the next step is to create a VPN connection on your computer. The following tutorial goes step–by–step through the creation process. These instructions work under all the client–side variations of Windows Vista, namely Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, and Ultimate.

Step 1: Open the Control Panels

First, click on the Start button and click “Control Panels”. This opens up the “Control Panel Home.”

Step 2: Go to the “Network and Internet” panel

Next, click on the “Network and Internet” control panel.

Step 3: Connect To A Network

Next, click on “Connect to a network.”

Step 4: Set up the VPN connection

Click on “Set up a connection or Network.”

Step 5: Choose the Connection Type

Click on “Connect to a workplace” then click “Next.”

Step 6: Select the Internet connection

Next click “Use my Internet connection (VPN).”

Step 7: Enter the server information

Now, enter the server information.

In the text box labelled ‘Internet address’ type the IP address of domain you get from the VPN aministrator. In the text box labelled ‘Destination name’ type an easy to remember name. This is the name of the connection, and will show up in the “Connect to a network” screen when we’re done.

Lastly, make sure that the checkbox labelled “Don’t connect now; just set it up so I can connect later” is checked.

Then click the “Next” button.

Step 8: Enter your VPN username and password

In the text box labelled “User name:”, enter your username.

In the text box labelled “Password:”, enter your password.

Optionally, check the “Remember this password” checkbox and you won’t have to enter your password when you connect to the VPN server.

Then, click the ”Create” button.

Step 9: Connection Ready

Click the “Close” button to return to the “Network and Internet” screen.
