ProXPN has provided free OpenVPN for a long time. By default you will need to download and install their VPN client software before you can use their free service. If you have OpenVPN installed on your machine, here is a trick you can use proXPN free VPN without downloading their client software. This post is for advanced users only. I suggest you to download and use proXPN client software if you are new to VPN. Their VPN client has more features than the free OpenVPN program.
ProXPN free VPN is of OpenVPN type. Since you have OpenVPN installed, the next step to use proXPN is to create a proXPN account. The sign up link can’t be found on proXPN official website (www.proxpn.com). ProXPN has a facebook page at
http://www.facebook.com/proXPN, there they post a link for their fans to create an account. Below is the screenshot:

Just click the link in proXPN fan page and you can register an proXPN account. Now you need to download proXPN OpenVPN config files. ProXPN don’t provide the config files for downloading. Please open google.com and search “proxpn config file”. If you are lucky, you’ll find links to download proXPN config file. I did a search and found the first link in the screenshot below working.

After downloading, extract the files to your OpenVPN config folder. There is a file named “proxpn.cfg” in the config file pack. You can open proxpn.cfg with Windows Notepad and save your proXPN username and password in it.
When you run OpenVPN GUI and try to connect to proXPN, depending on the OpenVPN build you’re using, you may need to enter the VPN username and password even you have saved them in proxpn.cfg.
